Hello!
I’m Dawn,
a local Fibre Artist in Peramangk Country, Adelaide Hills who makes and sells bespoke clothing and lifestyle garments with gently used wool blanketing
Aurora Dawn began 50 years ago –
although I didn’t know it then.
My mother (pictured) taught me to sew, knit, crochet and modelled craft as a recreational and creative pursuit. I watched as she screen printed, learned Ikebana, made patchworks, machine and hand knitted for her 5 children, and eventually spent many years as an amateur potter off the wheel.
I connected with her love of the creative and together we enjoyed many hours of crafting and sewing. I was an aspiring seamstress and when I couldn’t get an apprenticeship my options were to go teaching or work in a factory making collars or waistbands all day. Thanks Mum for knowing teaching was going to be far more satisfying for me!
I continued to build my current creative skills through hobbies, clothing myself, sewing, smocking, embroidering for my children, and others.
Today I find myself in the happy position of choosing the creative pursuit of upcycling wool blankets into bespoke pieces of clothing, decor items and blankets that are hand embroidered.
I am a member of The Embroiderer's Guild of South Australia.
Aurora Dawn is my passion outlet for the creative using wool & cotton fibre, alpaca and wool threads, with a touch of leather.
